Onboarding & FAQs

We'll soon have a short video series walking you through everything you need to know about using Ori in your plan sets. Until then, please browse through our supporting documentation below.

Implementing Expandable Spaces
by Design Phase

After watching our video series (coming soon!), you’re ready to design expandable spaces. Follow Ori’s implementation guide below to see how Ori solutions for expandable spaces can be implemented in your project regardless of the project phase.

Step 1
Step 1
Design with Ori

Have a project in mind? We’ve got your back! Expandable Apartments means new possibilities (unit sizes, functions, proportions, time/dynamism, etc..). Expandables can be included into a building regardless of where you are in the design process, and we have all the resources you will need along the way.

Step 2
Step 2
Concept & Feasibility

In the earliest stages of the design process, Expandable Apartments and Ori optimized units can unlock new potential for residential multifamily projects, such as increased density or a smaller overall building footprints. Our tutorials and case studies provide guidance for these new design possibilities.

Step 3
Step 3
Schematic Design

Value-engineer without compromise. Use Ori to help a project pencil, without designing boring or limiting living spaces. Our design guidelines can help you apply this approach, and the Ori team can provide guidance on expandable space strategy for your target market and your client’s goals.

Step 4
Step 4
Design Development

If your project is already in the Design Development stages, using Ori can still improve units to function, feel and rent larger – without having to modify or change demising walls. An Ori Design professional can guide you through implementation with just a PDF plan set, or the architect team can plug-in and explore using the products on their own, first.

Step 5
Step 5
Construction Documentation

As a UL Certified product, Ori merely needs a standard outlet in order to transform and multiply space. That said, it’s still important to ensure technical specifications - like ceiling height and outlet placement - are considered.

Step 6
Step 6
Construction Admin & Installation

Keep Ori in the loop for design revisions. Ori will provide shop drawings for your approval. Once layouts are approved and dimensions are verified in the field, Ori will coordinate the installation. Systems are modular and flat packed, delivered and installed on site by our ‘Certified’ Installer Network.

Step 7
Step 7
Retrofit

Great solution to increase function, minimize construction, differentiate in the market and command a premium for your clients. Ori can consult on feasibility and unit typologies for your target market.

Developer & Resident Perspectives

Developers can offer a truly unique in-unit amenity, improving building economics with apartments that feel, live and rent larger. Residents pay for what matters — more space, more functionality, and more fun

Important best practices

A new typology, new possibilities

Expandable Apartments create new unit typologies that can impact the design at a building scale. Thinking about Ori as space or real estate (instead of as furniture), makes it possible to achieve ambitious unit and project targets.

Density without compromise

Cutting design ideas due to cost is never fun. Expandable Apartments makes it easier to increase density or decrease the building footprint, without compromising on the end-product for the resident.

It’s never too late to retrofit

Regardless the phase of the project, expandable spaces can be implemented at any point to enhance the experience of an existing unit. Increased functionality means more value (for the user, and your clients).

Dream big for residents

There are endless opportunities when designing with  Expandable Apartments and spaces. To avoid being overwhelmed with options, always consider the market and the future resident, as that will help guide the best expandable space strategy.
